– APAL (Application Polyester Reinforced Liège) is a Belgian automobile construction company founded in 1961 in Herstal and then installed in Blegny-Trembleur, in the Liège region, by Edmond Pery and Bruno Vidick with the aim of building sports cars and buggies . They first make a small coupé based on VW. Then, APAL manufactures Formula Vee single-seaters but it is especially with the buggy with German chassis and “polyester” fiberglass body that, during the 1970s, the APAL factory takes off. In the early 1980s, Edmond Pery continued alone at the head of the company. In its heyday, the factory produced up to five cars a day, with around fifty workers, including Christian Devillers (workshop manager). Apal unfortunately went bankrupt in 2008.
The traditional buggy is available on a standard VW chassis with a 1200 or 1300 cc air-cooled VW engine. It was produced in more than 4000 copies by Apal.
