In 1968, the Ford Escort Mk1 succeeded the ageing Anglia, rapidly becoming an extremely popular model on the European market. At the top of the engine range was the famous 1600 Twin Cam developed for the Cortina Lotus. The idea of fitting this high-performance engine to the new Escort, which was particularly light and agile, was born in the mind of Henry Taylor, Director of Ford’s Competition Department.

To demonstrate the validity of this choice, Ford Boreham began developing prototypes at the end of 1967 with a view to homologating the Ford Escort Twin Cam in Group 2 (for rallying) and Group 3 (for circuit racing). As soon as it made its rally debut, the Gr.2 Twin Cam racked up major successes on both gravel and asphalt, thanks in particular to Roger Clark, Hannu Mikkola, Tony Fall and Gilbert Stapelaere.

Ford Cortina Lotus Mk1

Type Consul 1963

In the early 1960s, Ford and Lotus mutually needed each other. In 1962, while Ford engines were arriving on the Seven and Elan, the American giant presented its new Cortina, quickly announcing the launch of a sports version in order to dust off its overly “mature” image. This is how the Cortina Lotus was born, the result of a project led by Hugh Heskell within the venerable house founded by Colin Chapman.

This Cortina Lotus was also primarily intended to shine the colors of Ford in the context of touring car races, very popular in Great Britain. Its developer was none other than Jim Clark. A legendary driver for a sports car that would become just as legendary. The bodies of these Lotus Cortinas were produced in the Ford factory in Dagenham, where they received their famous Ermine White livery trimmed with Sherwood Green stripes, before being sent to Lotus in Cheshunt to accommodate in [...]

MY Vintage proposes you this sumptuous 1959 Mercedes-Benz 190SL (W121 B II).

This SL is powered by an 1897 cm³ engine, based on the six-cylinder of the 300SL, an overhead camshaft, two twin Weber carburettors, and offers 105 bhp.

In the early 1950s, Mercedes-Benz returned to competition with the 300SL, and in 1953 the American importer of the marque with the star pulled off a masterstroke by encouraging Mercedes to produce a civilian version in 1954. But Mercedes didn’t stop there, and the decision was made to produce a roadster based on the 300SL, but cheaper to produce and more accessible to customers: the 190SL. But the most important thing about the Mercedes 190SL was above all its lines. The designers succeeded in creating a design that was very close to the 300SL, despite being 30 centimetres shorter.

Like the 300SL cabriolet, the 190SL takes many styling cues from the 300SL coupé. The radiator grille, [...]
