Maintained by Paul Devos’ Devos Motorsport team in Kortrijk, it participated in around a dozen events—mainly historic ones—across Belgium and northern France between June 2022 and November 2023 under the registration number NO S 064. Aside from the 2022 Ypres Historic Rally, where it was driven by Louis Vandenborre, the car was piloted on these occasions by its owner, Abdelouahab Benali.
Now with MY Vintage, this Toyota Celica GT-4 Group A ST165 has been restored to the livery most emblematic of its chassis number and registration, K-AM 9444. It now sports the official colors of the 1989 season. In November of that year, Juha Kankkunen drove chassis #TC-416 at the Lombard RAC Rally, starting in Nottingham. The Finnish driver secured third place behind Pentti Airikkala’s Mitsubishi Galant and the Toyota Celica of teammate Carlos Sainz. Without a 1’34” delay in the 32nd of the 55 stages, Kankkunen might have contested for victory until the end.
Two months later, the same Toyota Celica GT-4 Gr.A ST165 #TC-416, still bearing the registration K-AM 9444, competed again under the official Toyota Team Europe banner. It was entrusted to Armin Schwarz for the 1990 Monte Carlo Rally. At the wheel, the German driver finished in fifth place overall.
In its two world championship appearances, chassis #TC-416 achieved two Top 5 finishes, including one podium.
